Opera to Go 2011

Fee, Fi, Fo, Fun!
Lake George Opera at Saratoga’s
OPERA TO GO is pleased to present
Jack and the Beanstalk!

Opera education is central to Lake George Opera at Saratoga’s mission.  Each year, the company performs for more than 35,000 children throughout upstate New York and western New England.  Opera to Go brings fully staged, fully costumed performances complete with professional singers and a professional pianist to area schools.   Advance study guides help teachers prepare students for the musical, dramatic, historic, and visual contexts of the opera.  Using familiar stories and characters help students instantly connect with the performance.   We prepare a study guide for our touring production that includes curriculum connections and lessons for teachers. These guides focus on students’ learning; they have the potential to provide in-depth connections with classroom curriculum.  All of the lessons are tied to either state or federal standards.  Question and answer sessions between artists and students demonstrate that the children stay fully engaged and interested in the performance.  In the spring of 2010, Lake George Opera at Saratoga’s Opera to Go program toured with a production of “The Three Little Pigs by John Davies for six weeks.  This year Opera to Go will be visiting schools from February 28 ~ April 15, 2011. We will be presenting another great story adaptation by John Davies, “Jack and the Beanstalk” set to the music of Sir Arthur Sullivan. In this adaptation the characters discover that “You must treat other people the same way you would want other people to treat you!”

Public performances throughout the region.  Information to follow.

2010 Summer Opera Intensive

LAKE GEORGE OPERA at SARATOGA
OPERA INTENSIVE 2010
"PATIENCE"

"Yes, yes I am aesthetic"

Opera Patience Once again, we had the distincthonor of working with the immeasurably talented students of Lake George Opera at Saratoga Summer Opera Camp - recently renamed the Lake George Opera at Saratoga Summer Opera Intensive to more accurately reflect this unique and challenging experience. This year's group of singers were indeed a special group, not only each a true triple threat (they could sing, dance and act) but in several cases they were also accomplished instrumentalists. We never cease to be amazed by
their many talents, their constant good humor and their honest dedication to performing at their very best. Hearty congratulations to each and every one of the students. Thank you all for making this an exceptional experience!

Summer Opera Intensive

is a two-week intensive Opera Camp for students ages 12 to 18. While mounting each new production, the students also receive coaching in voice, movement and acting. They learn techniques for good breathing and physical flexibility and they assist in all aspects of putting the show together in the short two-week period. This year the students attended Lake George Opera at Saratoga's main stage performance of "Carmen" and attended masterclasses given by Lake George Opera at Saratoga's Studio Artists and "Viva la Mamma" principal artist Richard Holmes.
