The Pirates of Penzance 2008

'LGO's Pirates a fun delightful performance. Lake George Opera opened its 47th season ...with an evening of pure fun in a perfectly cast production of Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance. The LGO orchestra was right on spot for this entire performance, led by the company's own Artistic Director, Curt Tucker. Robert Orth, who has appeared with the Metropolitan Opera and received awards from New York City Opera, was perfect as the Major-General, enunciating Gilbert's clever lyrics with machine-gun quick accuracy. The actor's second act dance was a show-stopper. Khori Dastoor has a glorious voice...who caught our attention and praise last season as an LGOpera at Saratoga Apprentice. She was irresistible as Mabel, her engaging smile as bright as her voice.'

- Judith White for the Saratogian

'LGO's Pirates of Penzance is a must-see production. It sparkled. The voices soared. The orchestra under conductor Curt Tucker was light, buoyant and subtle. And the acting was slyly convincing, not too boisterous and always charming. The singers obviously had fun, and the capacity crowd had a great time.'

- Geraldine Freedman for The Daily Gazette

'Visit to familiar (Gilbert and Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance) a rewarding experience; sung gorgeously. Conductor Curtis Tucker finds the zest of Gilbert and Sullivan's score. Aside from the magical singing voices.... Pirates) offers light-harted fun. If you care about beautiful music... you won't be disappointed.'
